Nothing of much importance happened last week. I just turned fourteen, no big deal ;) Kidding aside, July 5 was such a memorable day filled with surprise gifts, too much plates of lechon and cheesy birthday greetings and I'd love to share them with you all.
Even before my actual birthday, my circle of friends (shoutout to you weirdos, I love you!) already gave me a birthday treat in the form of eight pieces of siomai and a mango shake, my favorite food combo from our school canteen. Gosh, no words can describe how touched I was by their gesture (and overwhelmed at how good the siomai really was – to say that I'm obsessed is the ultimate understatement!). My 'taksils' (inside joke, hehe) are really the greatest, and I could never ask for a better set of friends to be with.
For July 5, my family and I had a whole lunch date planned out at DADS World Buffet in Glorietta, our favorite celebration place. I literally consumed so much pork and squid products that up to now, my head is just spinning in circles just thinking about it. Besides the extraordinary food I ate, I also loved the fact that there was a 'band' serenading us all as we ate. I got them to play me "What Makes You Beautiful", considering that was the only One Direction song they knew, and they even provided me with a free cake! Sweet! (Literally.)
I also got a number of gifts from the world's most thoughtful people, also known as my family members and a couple of friends outside my group. From my parents, I received the number one item on my wishlist: Rookie Yearbook Two! I originally wished for the first edition of the Rookie Yearbook, but I was still extremely ecstatic when I was able to hold the second volume of every blogger's Bible in my hands. As of now, I am savoring each and every page of it (seriously, I'm only on page 16, I guess?), and once I finish it, I plan to keep it in a special place so I can show my future granddaughters how teenagers lived before robot butlers and/or apes have taken over the world.
I also received an ultra-rad (excuse the mainstream term) pair of shoes from Topshop! Aren't they adorable?! It certainly adds a pop of color to everything I wear, and earns itself the position of the ultimate standout in my ensemble. I didn't even include this in my wishlist, to be honest, so it was just amazing how my mom knew the exact kind of shoes I wanted without asking me or without me pointing it out to her in a window display!
I received a Juana dress, from my Tita Chinx, Tito Mike and my cousin, Miguel. You can't really see it that well in this photo, since I'm holding it up and all, but let me tell you - it's absolutely perfect! I love dresses with bold black and white prints like this: I find this simple and elegant, and perfect for any formal gathering. Plus, I was so relieved that it fit me perfectly! I really wish there was a special occasion around the corner that I could attend, so I could have an excuse to wear this, hehe.
From my other schoolmates, I also got three extremely cute loom bands that come in the cutest designs, some mini clothespins that I decided to use as bookmarks (PatFer, I really hope I use them right!), the most delicious chocolate chip cookies and the sweetest letter from one of my friends! I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such thoughtful people, and I thank God for them every single day.
And now, as this blog comes to a close, I'd like to say some words about this new chapter in my life: being a fourteen year-old, also known as being one step closer to being called a proper 'grown-up'. To be honest, I thought that spending my sophomore year in the teenage world would need a sudden increase in maturity, a sudden change in principles and interests: to the point that I felt the need to learn how to speak French fluently, be knowledgeable on the stock market and/or the Consitution and listen to adult contemporary songs. But another realization struck me as I was trying to finalize the ending for this very blog: I just turned fourteen, not forty, geez. Why should I pressure myself into growing up too fast and turning into someone I'm not? So what if I'm a fourteen year-old who can spontaneously quote Spongebob Squarepants, still likes One Direction after three years (!!!) and can re-enact any music video on the MTV Top 20 Countdown? That's who I am, and it may sound cliché, but there is literally nobody else like me in the world, period. Here's to many more years of being me! 'Til the next birthday post!
